The new season of Championship football is approaching and with that so does another season of GAFFR Championship Fantasy. Because of this we overview the newly promoted teams whom have fought their way into the second division.

Looking at newly promoted sides can be very beneficial for GAFFR managers. Having a good idea of what they could bring to the new season will be vital in terms of long term planning. They also usually offer up value for money players with low price-tags to help enable the pricier options in our teams.

Plymouth

Plymouth blitzed their way to clinching the League One title this season. They reached a colossal 101 points for their efforts, three points ahead of closest challengers Ipswich. Along the way Plymouth also racked up 82 goals scored, averaging 1.8 goals scored per game.

Defensively Plymouth also collected 18 clean sheets in their 22/23 campaign which could lead to defensive investment from GAFFR managers. One of their standout players was striker Niall Ennis who bagged 12 goals and five assists.

Ipswich

Ipswich may have finished second but they topped a lot of the key statistics. In their promotion winning campaign they ranked first for goals scored (101), the best for goal conceded (35), second for big chances (97) first for ball possession (59.7%) and first for shots per game (17.5).

One of their most influential players was striker Conor Chaplin who picked up a huge 26 goals and five assists. Another key player was midfielder Leif Davis. The 23-year-old hit three goals and a massive 14 assists.

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday were also brilliant in their journey to promotion. They ended the season with 96 points which was 10 points clear of fourth place Barnsley. That may have been the case but their position also meant they had to battle through the play-offs.

They made an epic come back in the semi-finals to win 5-1 after losing the first leg 4-0 then went onto beat Barnsley in the final 1-0. One of their most important players was 33-year-old Barry Bannan. The Scotsman accumulated seven goals and 13 assists to help his side reach the Championship. Striker Michael Smith could be another play to watch after 17 goals and six assist from 39 matches.
