Who passed the eye test in Gameweek 36?

We take a look at the Saturday matches to see who passed the eye test Gameweek 36. With a focus on the matches played so far, we highlight some of the standout performances of the current round, whether they returned in Fantasy Premier League or not.

Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, looking at who passed the eye test in Gameweek 36 could be a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams moving forward.

Raheem Sterling

Chelsea were hoping to build on their victory against Bournemouth in previous round. The Blues came up against a relegation battling Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 36. The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw and one of the best players on the pitch was Raheem Sterling (£9.7m).

Sterling’s speed and acceleration caused major problems for the Nottingham Forest defence. Not only did the midfielder win half of his duels, he also completed half of his dribbles. Sterling was the game changer and his two goals were detrimental to Chelsea coming away from the game with one point. Interestingly, the Blues have a double Gameweek in 37. Because of this, could we see managers take a risk with Sterling?

Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace have made huge improvements under Roy Hodgson winning five of their last eight matches. The Eagles were in top form once against as they put two goals past one of the worst defences in the league, Bournemouth.

There were several key performances in the game, one of them being Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise (£5.3m). However, the best showing came from fellow midfielder Eberechi Eze (£5.5m). He was fantastic throughout the game, creating one key pass leading to a shot but more importantly scoring a brace that helped his side take all three points. Eze faces both Fulham and Nottingham Forest in the final two rounds so many could be looking to him as a differential, especially after his Gameweek 36 performance saw him collect a huge 16 points in FPL.

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United knew they had to win in Gameweek 36. The Reds are now four points clear of fifth place Liverpool in the race for top four. They won the game comfortably and it could have been a bigger victory than the 2-0 score line they finished on.

Claiming the best performance of the game was Bruno Fernandes (£9.4m). The midfielder was back to his best. Showing threats from multiple routes, Bruno made six defence splitting passes including an impressive two big chances. Not just this but he also came close to scoring himself with two shots on target. Fernandes was excellent and he was rewarded with a six-point return in FPL this week. He also has a double Gameweek ahead, so many managers should look for a way to bring him into their teams.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle played a feisty match against relegation battling Leeds this week. They were looking to further secure a top four spot in the league but that wasn’t to be as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Although that was the case, the match wasn’t shy of some top showcasing.

One of the best performances came from Kieran Trippier (£6.1m). The full- back had two roles to play this week. One of them was to defend and the other to create. He did both well, winning most of his duels whilst also producing three key passes leading to shots. Although creative, Trippier banked his eighth consecutive blank in a row and many managers could now be looking to sell.
