Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 29?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 29.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least nine shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Due a goal in Gameweek 29

In the reduced weekend of Blank Gameweek 28, none of the four listed names bagged a goal. To be fair, they only combined for 26 minutes of playing time!

Ranked by xG

All 20 teams will participate in Gameweek 29 and a dozen of these play twice, although this hasn’t exactly enlarged the table.

Eddie Nketiah and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are likely to remain unavailable, although the latter has a better chance of an appearance.

“He has felt something we have got to be careful with that’s all, and he has to be careful with. He wasn’t overly in my thinking for the Chelsea game regardless of anything else because [then] the international break comes and we can hopefully use that more wisely.” – Sean Dyche

Meanwhile, Nketiah’s Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Jesus is being eased into action following his November knee injury. Leeds could be the perfect opponent for the Brazilian to get back amongst the goals.

That leaves James Ward-Prowse and Bryan Mbeumo as the two leading candidates to score. The latter has trips to both Brighton and Man United but pales in comparison to team-mate Ivan Toney. Yet the much cheaper Mbeumo does have the advantage of not having an imminent ban.

As for the Southampton captain, his awful early season form has slowly improved since the Gameweek 17 restart. The two penalty misses before were followed by a successful stoppage-time spot kick against Spurs. Ward-Prowse owners will hope he rises to the occasion during this bottom-of-the-table clash with West Ham.
