We take a look at FPL essentials from West Ham v Chelsea. Covering who passed the eye test, the biggest returners, who topped the bonus points, line-ups, key moments, player minutes and overall implications that could affect FPL moving forward.

In a change of format from the original match report structure we now cover even more! Our FPL essentials from West Ham v Chelsea will provide even more information for FPL managers to consider for their future plans.

Line-ups – West Ham

New signing and striker Danny Ings (£6.4m) fails to start the game but does make the substitutes bench. Midfielder Jarrod Bowen (£8m) will be hoping to continue his good run after securing a 16-point haul in Gameweek 21.

Line-ups – Chelsea

Midfielder Joao Felix (£7.5m) starts the match after completing his three match ban. He looked bright on his debut so will be hoping to pick up where he left off. Another new signing starts the match. Ukrainian midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk (£7m) played 45 minutes in his second match for Chelsea.

Key moments – first half

  • The first half gets underway.
  • It’s a positive start from Chelsea as they dominate early on.
  • Chelsea’s Joao Felix is through on goal, chips the goalkeeper, it bounces off the post and he taps it into the net but its offside.
  • It’s a huge blow for West Ham as midfielder Lucas Paqueta (5.9m) leaves the field of play due to injury.
  • GOAL! Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez (£5m) lofts a perfect ball into the box and Joao Felix calmy finishes his chance as the ball drops in front of him! It’s 1-0 to Chelsea!
  • Mykhailo Mudryk slides a lovely through ball to Chelsea striker Kai Havertz (£7.7m) who edges past the goalkeeper creating space to place the ball into the goal. However the goal is ruled offside.
  • GOAL! West Ham react with a goal of their own after Jarrod Bowen flicks on a cross and West Ham defender Emerson (£4m) is at the back post to equalise! It’s 1-1!
  • CHANCE! Joao Felix takes the free kick he earned from outside the box and forces a save from the West Ham goalkeeper.
  • The whistle blows for half-time.

Key moments – second half

  • The second half gets underway.
  • West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal (£4.1m) picks up a yellow card for his foul.
  • Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile (£5m) receives a yellow card for his challenge.
  • Significant changes take place as Danny Ings replaces West Ham striker Michail Antonio (£7m). Amongst the Chelsea changes, Mudryk, defender Marc Cucurella (£5.1m) and midfielder Noni Madueke (£5.5m) come off for midfielder Mason Mount (£7.3m), midfielder Hakim Ziyech (£5.5m) and defender Ben Chilwell (£5.8m).
  • Chilwell sends a dangerous ball into the box but Havertz fails to make decent contact and his header goes wide.
  • West Ham have a goal ruled offside after West Ham midfielder Tomas Souchek (£5.1m) pokes home from a rebounded cross.
  • The match ends 1-1.

Which players passed the eye test?

  • Joao Felix had a fantastic game overall. Threading some fantastic balls through, piecing together a somewhat disjointed Chelsea attack and coolly finished his chance when he got one.
  • Bearing in mind that it was Enzo Fernandez’s second game for Chelsea, you wouldn’t have known. Fernandez played some really important and successful long balls, whilst also controlling the midfield for parts of the game. His perfected lofted cross played a major part in the goal.

Who returned the most points?

  • West Ham’s Emerson claimed 10 points for his goal and bonus.
  • Chelsea’s Felix scored to hit nine points due to his goal and bonus.
  • Chelsea’s Fernandez claimed six points after creating an assist and earning bonus.

Who topped the bonus points?

Minutes

  • Lucas Paqueta played just 14 minutes before being forced off with a shoulder injury.
  • Mudryk played 66 minutes.
  • Mount and Chilwell came on second half to play over 30 minutes.

Overall FPL implications

  • Lucas Paqueta has been key for West Ham this season and without him could really struggle moving forward.
  • Mudryk played around 60 minutes again which suggests it may be too early to invest for those interested.
  • Mount failed to start the match and for any managers that do own him, his minutes are doubtful moving forward.
  • Similar to Mount, Chilwell also played 30 minutes which is good news for those looking to invest in the Chelsea backline.
  • Reece James played his first full game since injury. As fixtures improve he could become a very interesting option.
