Who played well in FPL Gameweek 22

We take a look at who played well in FPL Gameweek 22. With a focus on the matches played so far, we highlight some of the standout performances of the current round, whether they returned in Fantasy Premier League or not.

Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, looking at who played well in FPL Gameweek 22 could be a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams moving forward.

Benoît Badiashile

Chelsea were struggling to maintain any sort of defensive stability before January. Conceding poor goals and looking very shaky at the back, but things seem to be improving lately. One of the biggest reasons for that is the introduction of Benoît Badiashile (£5m).

The Blues faced a tough Fulham side in Gameweek 22 and managed to keep their third consecutive clean sheet in as many games. Benoît Badiashile was excellent and huge reason they didn’t conceded. He was strong, dominant and progressive with the ball. Maintaining a fantastic partnership with Thiago Silva (£5.5m) will be key, especially with good fixtures ahead and could hugely raise the appeal of investing into the Chelsea backline moving forward. The Chelsea centre back was rewarded with a six-point return in FPL for his efforts.

The Everton defence

Everton faced the impossible task of not only preventing Arsenal from scoring but also getting a positive result out of the game. The visitors sit as league leaders and have been relentless when finding the back of the net this season.

Not only did Everton succeed in keeping Arsenal out but they also won the game. There was an instant improvement in new manager Sean Dyche’s first game in charge. The Everton defence were solid, quicker than Arsenal to most balls and extremely difficult to break down. The entire starting backline returned points this week. FPL managers may reconsider when looking to target Everton moving forward but also consider investing in their defensive assets when fixtures improve.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Sean Dyche’s arrival didn’t just improve Everton defensively. The Toffees have been struggling to score goals and look convincing in attack. That also changed in Gameweek 22 as they looked the most dangerous side in the tie this week.

One player who stood out above the rest was striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m). His hold up of play was excellent and created time for the rest of his team to switch defence to attack. Calvert-Lewin put himself into some fantastic positions and even had great chances to score. Although failing to convert his performance into FPL points, the striker looked a completely different player under Dyche and with great fixtures ahead, some could even be considering him.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle’s winning form seems to be falling away from them. Prior to Gameweek 22 they drew two of their last three matches, whilst also failing to convince during their 1-0 victory in the same period. Unfortunately that form continued with a 1-1 draw against West Ham this week.

There was still some good performances within the Newcastle side in Gameweek 22. There isn’t many games this season where defender Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) hasn’t failed to impress. The full back looked like a key creator, putting in plenty of crosses, successfully delivering long balls to relieve pressure and create and mustering up three passes leading to shots. Although he blanked, his overall performance was very strong.
