How many double Gameweek players is enough

The festive period is over but some clubs still have intense schedules. With an exciting double Gameweek edging closer in Fantasy Premier League, we take a look at how many double Gameweek players is enough.

Double Gameweek’s have the potential to be the best way to gain rank or an edge over our mini league rivals. The question that many managers could be asking themselves is how many double Gameweek players is enough.

Which teams have double Gameweeks?

Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham all have double Gameweek’s in Gameweek 20.

What are their fixtures?

Crystal Palace v Chelsea and Manchester United.

Manchester City v Manchester United and Tottenham.

Manchester United v Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Tottenham v Arsenal and Manchester City.

How many double Gameweek players is enough?

Although there is no specific answer to this there are factors that need to be considered. One of those factors is longevity. Do we want the player we are buying for the double long term? If the answer is no then it could be worth excluding that player. This factor could also be combined with another.

Fixture difficulty is another huge factor. As we can see, most teams have very tough fixtures in both matches other than Manchester United, but their first match is against Manchester City. If a player we are bringing in has very tough fixtures, is it worth bringing that player in? Form is worth considering.

Form should also be considered rather than how many double Gameweek players is enough. Lets take a look at a list of top performing players over the last few weeks ahead of their matches:

  • Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (£12.2m)
  • Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (£12.5m)
  • Manchester United defender Luke Shaw (£5.1m)
  • Manchester United midfielder Marcus Rashford (£7m)
  • Tottenham striker Harry Kane (£11.6m)

All look to be in long term overall form so finding a way to include them all could benefit managers, especially because all of the players listed are very likely to start both matches.

Other players that are in-form are Manchester City midfielders Riyad Mahrez (£7.5m) and Jack Grealish (£6.8m). However both look to be rotation risks.

We brought in fellow FPL manager to see if he could provide an answer to how many double Gameweek players are enough.

@FPLReaction’s (Louis) comments

I don’t think there is a specific number on how many double Gameweek players is enough. However including all of the in-form players above and defensive cover from Manchester City, just in-case, I would probably say around 5-7.

Double Gameweek’s are there to fully attack, however, the fixtures are tough so the ceiling may be a lot lower than many within the community think it is. I think the best way to cover ourselves this week could be to own Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland for the double Gameweek to avoid huge point swings.
