FPL top picks for Gameweek 19

Utilising the fixture ticker and underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout members area, we pick out some of the FPL top picks for Gameweek 19. Considering team and player form, fixture difficulty and stats will help us shortlist some of the best assets for the round ahead.

Looking at the FPL top picks for Gameweek 19 can be extremely useful to managers in their quest for success. Knowing which players to target for the round ahead can help with important decisions like transfers and captaincy.

Goalkeepers – Kepa Arizabalaga

Chelsea have a double Gameweek in Gameweek 19 meaning they could be one of the best teams to invest in this week. They face Man City and Fulham. Defensively Chelsea have improved under Graham Potter and although they have taken a recent dip, they got back track with a clean sheet against Bournemouth in Gameweek 17.

One of the cheapest and safest ways into the Chelsea defence could be Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m). The Spaniard showed his potential when he claimed a huge nine-point return in Gameweek 17. Kepa has two matches to potentially return points, making him a comfortable inclusion in the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Bernd Leno

Another team that face a double Gameweek this week is Fulham. This could indicate that investing in them could be beneficial for Fantasy Premier League managers. They play Chelsea and Leicester, two teams that at times have struggled to score goals.

Fulham have been unstable at the back for most of the season but they have showed promise. Bernd Leno (£4.5m) has managed two double-digit hauls already this season and has picked up returns in three of his last six matches and with two games ahead, has plenty of opportunities to add to that.

David De Gea

Manchester United have been improving recently and the new manager seems to settling the backline. The Reds have managed three clean sheets in their last five matches with two of those coming in their last two games.

Bournemouth lay ahead for Manchester United. Amongst all teams in the league, the newly promoted side rank the worst for attempts on goal, joint worst for shots in the box and second worst for shots on target. This could indicate David De Gea (£4.9m) as a great inclusion into the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Defenders – Chelsea

The Blues have a double Gameweek ahead, so it could be wise to invest in some of their defensive assets. Chelsea may have been unstable for some parts of the season but their still maintaining some solid underlying defensive stats.

Amongst all teams in the league Chelsea rank in the best eight for for goals conceded, shots in the box conceded, shots conceded and shots on target. With Reece James injured, it may be difficult to pick a Chelsea defender.

Marc Cucurella (£5.2m) leads the way amongst the Chelsea defenders for expected goal involvement this season. Just behind him is right back Cesar Azpilicueta (£4.8m) who looks set to start in the place of injured Reece James. Centre back Thiago Silva (£5.4m) has the third highest expected goal involvement.

In terms of reliability for minutes, all three options look set to start both matches, so for that reason it could be worth backing Marc Cucurella or Cesar Azpilicueta depending on budget limitations.

Fulham defenders

The Fulham defence may be less convincing than the Chelsea defence but they have a double Gameweek so have two opportunities to return points. This makes Fulham a lot more attractive. We have already seen that Fulham are capable of keeping clean sheets but what do their assets offer going forward?

The Fulham defensive options don’t often return goal contributions but leading the way in terms of expected goal involvement is Kenny Tete (£4.4m) who picked up a assist in his last match. Following behind is Antonee Robinson (£4.4m). Tim Ream (£4.5m) ranks fourth amongst the Fulham defence for expected goal involvement this season.

Kenny Tete looks to be the standout option at the backline but only just. The Fulham defence could be worth the risk this week and for that reason, their defensive assets make the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle have been fantastic this season, and defensively one of the best units in the league. Amongst all teams they rank the best for goals conceded and clean sheets kept. This shows that buying into the Newcastle defence could be wise for managers.

Kieran Trippier (£5.9m) leads the way as the highest scoring defender in the game. Not just this but at the time of writing he is also the second highest scoring player in the game. Trippier takes set pieces and amongst all defenders ranks first for crosses, successful crosses, chances created and big chances created. He may be facing Arsenal but in his form it could be beneficial to bring him in for those that have not already.

Luke Shaw

We have already seen improvements in the Manchester United defence this season. They go into Gameweek 19 with the confidence of two back-to-back clean sheets behind them. The Reds face a match against Bournemouth in the next round, a team struggling for attempts on goal as we have already noted.

Luke Shaw (£4.9m) has been in fantastic form which has led an increasing reliability in terms of his minutes. The left back has been used in a centre back role on occasion but still showed ability to return FPL points. He has bagged 17 point in his last two matches, whilst claiming five bonus points.

Matt Doherty

Tottenham may be inconsistent but the appeal is that they play with a wing back system. This means that their defenders find themselves in some of the most advanced positions on the pitch and increases the likelihood of attacking returns.

They face a match against a Crystal Palace side who rank the joint worst for shots on target in the last six matches, increasing the potential of a clean sheet. Matt Doherty (£4.6m) appears to be in favour after starting the last match. The wing back bagged six attacking returns in his 15 starts last season so his ability is clear to see and for that reason makes the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Midfielders – Marcus Rashford

Manchester United are becoming a reliable team in FPL as of late. The Reds have been maintaining some great offensive stats in the last six matches. Manchester United rank second in the league for shots on target and fourth for attempts on goal. This could mean investing in their attack could be beneficial.

One player stands above all. That player is the in-form Marcus Rashford (£6.9m). The midfielder has bagged two back-to-back returns, including a huge 14-point haul. He faces one of the worst defensive sides in the league next up, Bournemouth. In top form and facing a poor team, Marcus Rashford makes the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Mason Mount

Chelsea may be inconsistent but the fact they have a double Gameweek ahead could be extremely difficult to disregard. They face a Man City side who have only kept one clean sheet in their last five matches and a Fulham side that have conceded two or more goals in 10 of their matches so far this campaign.

One player fantasy managers could choose to invest in is Mason Mount (£7.6m). The Englishman is nailed into the Chelsea starting 11 which adds to his appeal. Mason Mount’s position can change from central midfielder to part of the front three but still takes set pieces. Mount showed his potential in Gameweek 17 with a 10-point return against Bournemouth for his goal and bonus. With two matches ahead, Mason Mount eases his way into the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Andreas Pereira

Fulham have been putting up some great attacking stats this season. They rank in the best eight teams for key offensive data points this season and have scored against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle. The Fulham attack is extremely appealing this week and even more so because they play a double Gameweek.

It could be time for one of the best enablers in the game to make his way into our starting line-ups. Andreas Pereira (£4.6m) has been a very reliable bench player, hitting seven returns in the eight matches he has played so far. Pereira is a constant goal threat, picking up an assist in his last match and hitting the post in the one before. In an advanced position, playing for a team who score plenty of goals, Andreas Pereira walks into the the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have dominated most of the offensive stats in the last six matches. They rank first for big chances, first for shots on target, second for attempts on goal and second for attempts in the box. For that reason, investing in the Liverpool attack could be key.

The Reds face Brentford in Gameweek 19. Although very capable of scoring goals, they can be poor at the back. Amongst all teams in the league they rank the worst for attempts on goal conceded and joint worst for shots on target. This shows they could be a team to target.

The standout player from Liverpool is, without a doubt, Mohamed Salah (£12.9m). Amongst all players in the league in the last six matches, Salah ranks first for attempts on goal, first for shots in the box and third for big chances total.

Jarrod Bowen

West Ham are under the hammer as their flailing form continues to dampen their season. David Moyes’s side need a positive result and it could come against Leeds in Gameweek 19. In the last six matches Leeds rank the worst for goals conceded, goal attempts conceded in the box and joint worst for shots on target conceded.

One man who could take advantage of those poor Leeds defensive stats is Jarrod Bowen (£8m). It’s been a tough season for Bowen picking up just three returns all season. However in his previous match he managed one shot on target and four key passes, showing intent. West Ham could punish the Leeds backline and Bowen could be the one to benefit. Due to all of the reasons above, Jarrod Bowen makes the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Forwards- Erling Haaland

Manchester City may face a tough game against Chelsea but have been dominating the offensive stats this season. Amongst all teams in the league Manchester City rank first for goals, first for total attempts on goal and first for big chances total.

It could be extremely difficult to leave out Erling Haaland (12.2m), even with a match against Chelsea next. The striker is the highest owned and highest scoring player in the game. Haaland is also sustaining some amazing offensive stats. Amongst all players in the league he ranks first for expected goal involvement, first for goals scored and first for attempts in the box.

Aleksander Mitrovic

Fulham continue their impressive form after claiming two back-to-back wins in the last two matches. Scoring against some of the best teams in the league Fulham also play in a double Gameweek meaning investment could be key.

Aleksander Mitrovic (£7.1m) is having a brilliant season upon his return to the Premier League. The striker has already collected 10 goals and one assist this campaign. He is also putting up some elite offensive stats. Amongst all players in the league he ranks first for total attempts on goal, second for shots in mthe box and first for headed attempts on goal. Aleksander Mitrovic is a must going into Gameweek 19 and a very strong captaincy option. For those reasons he makes the top picks for Gameweek 19.

Kai Havertz

Chelsea’s double Gameweek may involve Manchester City but even they have been poor defensively as of late. They have failed to keep more than one clean sheet in their last five matches. Fulham also conceded plenty of goals so investing in the Chelsea attack could be a wise move.

The Blues have a tendency to rotate heavily, especially players who are out of form. One player who looks like he is spearheading the Chelsea attack is Kai Havertz (£7.8m). The German bagged two goals in his World Cup campaign and picked up a goal and an assist in his first game back for Chelsea.
