The potential Covid situation at Spurs

This morning the FPL and Premier League social media communities were awash with reports that there had been a Covid outbreak at Spurs.

Numerous media outlets have been reporting that six players and two coaching staff had tested positive for the disease.

Potential Implications

If Tottenham confirm that there has been an outbreak of Covid in the squad this could have big implications for their team.

Spurs are due to play Rennes on Thursday in the Europa Conference League, with a trip to Brighton on Sunday in the Premier League. This schedule doesn’t get any easier with Leicester the following Thursday and Liverpool a week on Sunday.

Any players who do test positive for Covid 19 will have to follow Government protocol. This means isolating for 10 days from the first symptom or the positive test if the player is asymptomatic.

Assuming that the positive test was returned today the players in question would be in isolation until the 17th of December. This would rule them out of the Conference League game as well as three Premier League games.

The Spurs match against Rennes is not thought to be in doubt however. The UEFA guidelines state that a team needs to have fewer than 13 available players or no registered goalkeeper for the game to be in jeopardy. This doesn’t appear to be the case at Spurs currently.

The Premier League however, has different rules and therefore FPL managers will have to wait for notice from Spurs and the Premier League if this potential Covid outbreak is confirmed.

Spurs have already missed one Premier League game this season as a result of the storm calling off their Gameweek 13 fixture against Burnley.

Next Steps

News outlets are reporting that the Spurs Squad will be retested today and if the PCR tests confirm positive Covid cases then we should expect an official announcement from the club.

Spurs have already had two false positives so far this season, on the back of the October International fixtures.
