Live FPL Rank Tiers – GW9

An inside look into the decisions of FPL managers, by rank, using the Live FPL website

2.35% of top 10k managers used their first Wildcard for Gameweek 9, with the majority having already used it in recent times. Such a high-scoring weekend brought 40 goals and a large average score, so the 0.49% that used a Bench Boost may have benefitted from the returns of budget options like Tino Livramento (9), Emile Smith Rowe (13), Mateo Kovacic (11), Emmanuel Dennis (12) and Armando Broja (8).

The 1,354,820 purchases of Jamie Vardy have forced him into the top 10k template, as 7.5%-owned Kai Havertz was heavily pounced upon by a bigger proportion here once Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were both ruled out of at least Gameweek 9. As Leeds drew 1-1 with Wolves, Raphinha was helped down the tunnel with a 53rd minute injury that could shake up the template should Marcelo Bielsa confirm an absence.

There were similar early withdrawals for Vardy and Bryan Mbeumo, leaving them with just one point. An XI with Ben Foster, Shane Duffy, Mbeumo and Josh Brownhill on the bench and Mohamed Salah as captain would have brought in 101 points.

Looking further into the top 10k, the effective ownership (percentage of starting XI teams, plus captaincy, of a player) dramatically reduces to 39.99% for Livramento. With the only significantly-owned players not to participate being Marcos Alonso, Shane Duffy and Lukaku, a lot of top 10k managers will have been frustrated to see his nine points remain on their bench.

The incredibly high captaincy of Salah continued throughout the top 100k, although a normally marginal gain from his returns was heavily boosted by the 24-point haul at Man United.
