It’s nice to see that A-Rod overcame his injury and his admission of steroid use to post a pretty solid season last year. I think it’s pretty safe to rank him as your number one third baseman for the coming season and he remains one of the few players who could absolutely explode into a monster season, however I do not expect that this season. Evan Longoria is hot on A-rods heals and should be considered a safe pick up in your fantasy draft this year. Then questions surround the remaining players on the list. Can David Wright stay healthy and break out of his funk? Is Mark Reynolds the real deal or was last season a fluke? Is Ryan Zimmerman doomed to mediocrity as long as he stays in Washington? Is Kevin Youkilis going to continue to defy the odds and stay on top of the game? Will Aramis
Ramerez finally put together a full season worth of at bats and find his way into the top five? Oh jeez I guess you get my point, it becomes a major crap shoot after the top three! Kung Fu Panda seems like a safe mid round pick, the guy can rake, he just won’t contribute much of anything in the other cats. Chone Figgins and all his speed is going to be 32 years old and you gotta wonder if a guy who gets much of his fantasy value from that speed is going to stay relevant if he loses a step…not to mention a major change of scenery to the Mariners could have him slowing down a bit on the base paths. Michael Young’s power surge last season seems like a fluke to me and I don’t think we can count on that 20 plus homers from him this season. Grabbing guys with up-side like Adrian Beltre, Ian Stewart, Gordon Beckham, and Jhonny Peralta could help you fill the void left by Chipper Jones when he gets hurt! Mark DeRosa in my opinion is a player that I would try to avoid, he has just seen way to much change over the last few season, will seemingly never get settled into a single position on the field, and as a result is always going to fall short of his potential for offensive production. Chase Headley strikes out way to much to be counted on, but he is a young player with a ton of natural ability and he will be moving up this list in years to come.
